57. How to Feel Better When You Are Thrown Off Your Routine / Katie Kay Graham

Welcome back to another episode of body breaking free. I'm your host, Katie Kay. And so I want to get into this week, I'm sure a lot of us are celebrating the Fourth of July. And that means a lot of us are thrown off our normal routine, which means challenges for feeling good in our body, we might be away from having the exercise that we love, we may be faced with food challenges by being on social occasions. You guys know this feel drinking more, eating more. So this episode, I really wanted to talk about how we can get back into alignment, how we can get back into feeling good, aligning with your truth aligning with your highest self. And then I also want to talk about some opportunities coming up. So that you can start to feel better and your body and you can start to make the change that you desire. So let's get into first off, what are some of these things that is going to help us feel better, and I'm buying the Li, I've been waiting so long, I've literally been biting my lip to tell you guys, but it is here I'm offering some transformational workshops coming up. And these are the things that and the practices that change my relationship to my body and to food. And really help me to find stability in my body. So of course I want to take those things and and give them to you guys to help you out to support you and really set you out onto that path so that you can find peace, alignment, freedom from the barriers, and then you can step out into your life and expand into your life into your purpose and into your desires. My journey it was so long years and years and years of just trying to find the right practices and tools and how to approach my body. And so I want to provide you with everything that I know and just help you start to live the life that you love and a body that you love and, and really deserve. So at the end of this episode, I will get into those workshops, but the workshops, our body love workshop, this will be a four part series. And then we're doing an intuitive eating workshop. And then I'm also doing an outdoor yoga class. So I'll talk about those more. Okay, so I'm gonna start this episode by telling you that this last week, I have literally been shoving food down my face, like, never feeling full. I just had been constantly eating. And I finally checked in with myself the other day. And I was like Katie, like what's going on, like, what's up. And I realized it was because this week, I'm pushing some of my upper limits with offering some of these workshops, which is I'm so thrilled and excited, but definitely pushing my limits, putting myself out there more. And so I was reaching for food, to feel more comfortable, and just kind of that emotional release. And so once I realized that I was like, oh, oh my gosh, I get why, like I get why keep eating, I'm not feeling full. And then once I had that perspective, I was like, Okay, this is no big deal. Let's just get back into alignment. And first, that's what I want you to do this week is because when it's holiday or vacay, we can get in that stuckness and feel that way in our body externally and internally. And the key here is that we really can't sweat the small stuff. It's not fair to you. It's a taking away the enjoyment of life. And honestly, you're not going to change this week by being hard on yourself. And it's actually doing the opposite of helping you create change. So the ego has this idea that if we're holding on to our judgments about how we haven't been exercising or how you don't look good in a swimsuit, or whatever it is, how you ate too much yesterday

that the egos illusion around this is that this is going to be good for us. Because if we're hard on ourselves, then we'll just push ourselves to do better we'll make the change. But this is a total false perception of the ego, trying to keep us in the comfortable and actually preventing us from change by keeping us in This negative cycle. And I don't want to get too far in depth in CO creating and manifesting and being in this positive energy and how that can reflect actually into creating positive change. But just the simple fact of the ease the illusion of the ego. By giving us that judgment, that guilt, we're really not going to create positive change from that place. So when we're in this state, we also really numb our internal dialogue. And we shut it off because we know what's underneath. And it's a lot of judgment, a lot of negativity and shame and blame and guilt. So of course, you want to shut it off, right, of course, you feel that way. And you can do it any other way. Unless you have this perspective now.

So this is what we're going to do. First, realize that the egos intention is to keep you in the comfortable, right, if your body is in the same state, then we're most efficient there. We've been in there, we know what's happening, we know what's going on. And the ego will tell you all of these lies and misconceptions and illusions. And part of that is just putting a ton of guilt, a ton of judgments. And so let's just stop the guilt party, because it's doing the opposite of really what we want it to do, or what the ego is telling us it will do for us. And then secondly, don't sweat the small stuff, eating bad for a few days, not exercising for a week, it's not going to ruin anything. At all, I'll get more into this concept in a second here. But just know that being hard on yourself, you know, it's like, oh my gosh, I used to do this all the time, it was like one meal at a time. If I ate over eight on one meal. I didn't exercise that day, it's almost like the day was ruined. And it kept me in this really small container really limiting my life. And putting me in this container where I wasn't expansive, I didn't feel the possibilities. And I certainly didn't feel the joy and love in my body that I knew I deserved and I knew was out there. And that's part of the learning is just knowing that it is a much bigger perception than just staying in this confined head down place where we're just looking at meal to meal day to day vacation to vacation. Okay, so I'll get into this more in a second. And then number three, we're going to talk about the ways that you can actually start to feel better in your body. And if you really do you want change, approaching your body food, etc. Changing your relationship. Then let's dive into how we're really going to start making change real transformational change, not what the ego is telling us not what our limiting beliefs or the judgments are telling us but really setting out on to this journey of hope and expansion and making those small steps to make make real positive change in your life and how you relate to your body and food. Okay you guys so let's talk about the egos intention of keeping us in this guilt party and actually shine light on it. Right so let's dive into that internal dialogue that we're having. So the egos intention is saying like let's have this guilt party let's put some judgment on ourselves. Like we're out of our routine I have an exercise for X amount of days weeks, been eating too much and we numb out like the internal dialogue now. I don't know if you guys have ever had a meditation practice where you're doing a meditation every day and then you have a really bad day you're like feel really crummy and you don't want to meditate. Make sense? Because sitting there being with this discomfort is really uncomfortable and so we'd much rather just put it push it away until we feel better. And then we come back onto our meditation pillow and we're good to go. What Pema children talks a lot about here and a lot of my fulness teachers talk about is when we push away the discomfort and we numb out that internal state, we're actually giving all of our power into our fears. And so let's kind of let's flip this, let's take the power away from the ego, from the judgments from the fears, and just start to talk to yourself. Literally, I'm talking to myself all the time. Probably kind of weird and freaky. But usually, I don't do it around too many people. So that's good. But once we start to be that conscious observer, so you're that person,

outside of the drama, and when I'm talking to myself, I'm almost talking to myself, my internal state, I'm talking to that little self within me, and just checking in with her and, and I'm coming from this place of higher self. And so when we're in that place of higher self, we can really separate from all those judgments, all the negativity, and we're just in this place of, of observer of being a witness. And we can detach ourselves from everything that we really don't want to feel, even though it feels real to the little self. As we become that witness, as we come into this higher place of self, we actually can No, notice that there's really an impermanence of the body, nothing is ever constant, we're always going to fluctuate through change up and downs. And we can release being stuck in that by lifting up and out of it and just seeing it from a different point of view. And I'm just popping in my head and actual really good book, a really good book for this is the Untethered Soul by Michael singer, he does a really beautiful way of explaining how to tap into that conscious awareness and see your life almost like a movie screen. And when we're in that, that we don't get so wrapped up in these ups and downs, and really, what's constant now is being in that higher state. And there's a lot more stability and peace and alignment when we can do this over and over and over again. So we can practice it this week, which is awesome. When those thoughts pop into your head, and you're like, oh, man, she looks so good. And her new swimsuit, and her body looks so toned. You know, I look like shit. I look really bad, and blah, blah, blah, you guys know, like, I don't need to go through all those statements, because we've repeated them so many times. But you can snap notice that and the moment that you are aware of that thought you can detach from it. And you can just choose to let it go. It's the same thing in meditation, when we notice our thoughts floating in and out of our head, we can say hey, thought, I'm gonna come back into my body now. And we're not in the thought, we just notice it as this random thought that has nothing to do with us, it's really separate. It's almost like a cloud in the sky just passing by. Okay, so this is a great practice, because the more and more that we become into that higher self, we really don't sweat the small stuff. And that's how change is actually achieved. So this is going into our second point, which I noted that we will get into, and we're getting into it. So I used to think that, you know, if I ate less, over and over if I had a calendar, and I was tracking my eating and tracking my exercise, whether it's on paper, or whether it's just in my head, that this was really the way to achieve success. And it's not bad, right? It's just like our common kind of the what the society standard tells us to do. Just keep improving, keep noticing what you're doing and keep changing and create new patterns and habits and blah, blah, blah. And when we're in this, like I said earlier, this leads us to be in that small container, that small perspective where we're judging every day, every meal, and it really traps our true self and this small container where it's just there's no possibilities. There's little joy, there's little love and it's just on this kind of like, work harder, do better improve mentality, which can be really suffocating. And that was one word I always use I just feel suffocated by life by other people. And it was this internal state, I was suffocating myself. And I kept looking outside of myself to say, Oh, you're the reason I feel suffocated. So notice that if that word pops up into your head, notice that you do have the ability to change, it's really your internal state and how you perceive your life and other people relationships, food, exercise, whatever it is, you can release that container.

And so if we're not sweating, the small stuff, let's look into what's really going on here. And I was thinking about this the other day, and how do I explain this in a way that simplifies it. And I really liked the iceberg analogy. The iceberg analogy, so the little iceberg floating above the water, just 10% of the total iceberg is our conscious awareness. So what we're consciously aware of what right now in this present moment, what are your thoughts? What are your reactions, and then underneath the big 90 present part, but submerged, this is all of our subconscious beliefs, and limiting beliefs and stories and the ego, all the things underneath the surface that actually is running our life. So we think that if we have willpower motivation, we can change in an instant, in that moment. And even though it's true in each moment, you have the ability to choose what you're thinking, choose your own actions. But if we're relying only on motivation, and willpower, it's gonna fade, right, we're gonna feel like a failure, because we're gonna do something or give up or whatever. And that's because the subconscious belief system, that huge iceberg underneath the water is actually the thing running the show. And so this is a really great concept. Because when we look at this, we can make change this weekend, we're not going to improve or do better make, you know, lose the way in the next few weeks. By just changing our conscious awareness and changing our actions right, now, we need to address that bigger iceberg underneath and share you guys know the stories of people losing weight, and then it's like this staggering statistic of people gaining back the weight. That's because we haven't addressed the subconscious everything underneath the water that's actually running the show. And that that is what we actually need to change. And once we actually look at that, then we lose the way with ease with alignment centered in our truth. And that's for the long term, we're not gaining it back, we've done the work, we've gone through the journey, we've had the patience. And that's when true success happens. And I'm not trying to say that it's like oh my gosh, there's this like, huge, long journey where I'm gonna, you know, change my relationship to body change my relationship to food, it's really actually empowering to think of it that way. Because if you truly want long term change, and you're willing to have the patience, then you know successes on the other side. And you also can release the small stuff, the day to day stuff, where you mess up here and now and again and over and over because it all happens to us. And I don't want you to not enjoy life and enjoy the people and drink and eat the amazing foods and alcohol or whatever is your spice of life. It's like yeah, soak up those moments of life. And when the ego comes in and uh, judges you, you can look at and be like, Hey, man, hey, girl,

hey, what's up? You know, that's nice, but I'm gonna come back into my body. I'm gonna choose love instead, or whatever that you know that process is for you. I usually just kind of like, Hey, thank you. Yeah, okay, thanks. And then I move on. So this is exciting to think of change in this way. And there's a lot of different aspects to the iceberg as well. We have body therapy. So bottom up processes where we have stuck energy trauma in the body, from almost stuck in time from past experiences. So we can move through that we can release that stuckness and release that weight. And then there's talk therapy. So top down therapy where we can start to change our perspectives of things and talk about these new belief systems and rewrite our mindset with affirmations, lots of I mean, just a few things, but lots of different things. And there's people out there. I mean, on the podcast, like all these people I've interviewed, which is literally their life's purpose, and passion is to help people with these types of things. And we just are exploring, there's so many different tools and practices. And that's where the real work begins as you start to listen to your intuition. And they're like, oh, like, that person talked about body based therapy. And, you know, I've been having this pain in my back. And I've kind of feel like I need a release, that it might be energy work, like, that kind of sounds interesting. And then you just start to move in that direction. And it's actually really enjoyable to look as, look at this process as a journey, because you can enjoy the journey while it's happening. It doesn't have to be this quick, like 30 day, fad diet, do this, this and this, where we're stuck again, in that small container, we can be on this beautiful journey of patients, and meeting new people learning new things, and grow and grow and grow and just start pushing our upper limits over and over and over again. And it's really fun and exciting. And you just tap into your potential and you move through these blocks and resistance. And that's the fun part, right. And like, just talking yourself learning to be that conscious observer having that awareness. Bit by bit, you start to break free of all those limits, and you start to really feel uplifted. And I can say that, because I've gone through it, I've gone through the experience of it. And I've talked to a lot of people on the podcasts that have done the exact same thing. Oh my gosh, so I hope this gave you a little uplift for, you know, if you're not feeling good right now, which is totally understandable. And if you ever need, you know, if you ever need to talk about something, if you want a few little exercises, there was an episode right around Christmas, where I talked about holiday, like facing the holiday discomfort. And I know I went through a few practices like breath work and being that conscious observer and little things that we can do to feel better. So you can look into that. But also just a sigh of relief of seeing that bigger perspective and letting go of some of that guilt and judgment is actually going to help you lead towards the change that you want. So letting all of that goal is actually going to put you in a positive vibration, that will help rise up your intuition. And they'll start to lead you on this path of change. So I don't want to leave you on this episode of being like just like go look for some people and like, you might already have kind of an idea of like, Oh, when I get done with this vacation, like there's this one person I've been meaning to reach out to to help me, you know, x x, or whatever it is. But if you don't, then I really want you to stay and listen to some of these workshops coming up. Because this, this you guys is I can't even pull words like I can't even talk i because I'm so excited. And it really are the things that that really transformed how I related to my body and to myself and found that peace and safety and my body and helped me love myself and love my body. And from that place is when we really do start to see change. And it's I've been in the struggle I've been in the fight and especially with weight loss like that was a big thing that I struggled with for so long. And it wasn't until I found the love and acceptance that the weight just fell off. And Genine Roth talks about this in women food and God but it's like, the ego wants this to think that it's in the fighting that we will find it but it's really in the love and acceptance. And then we move forward with the real change. So it's a lot of internal shifts. And so that leads me into my first workshop body love workshop. You guys, this is gonna be awesome. I decided to do a four week transformational journey because there were four key elements that I really wanted to focus on. We will be doing gentle movement meditation and discuss Jen in each of the workshops, and so it's about seeing your body with love through spirituality. It's about releasing fears and judgments around your body. And then it's about tapping into your body's true purpose. So this is really about reframing how you see your body and how you relate to your body in such a beautiful way, because, like I said, these are the method methods that set me free. And that's what I want to share with you guys to help you feel connected, help you feel into that alignment and confidence that really is within you. And once you tap into that place, then you start to expand into your desires and into your true potential and into your light. So once we find that safety and alignment and stability within the body, that is when you can shine. And yeah, that's what we want, right? We want your true purpose and light and potential out into the world.

BODY LOVE WORKSHOP

So week one, we will be doing body scan, meditation awareness, spirituality and connectedness, healing your perception, week two body affirmation, meditation, affirmations, rewiring your mindset, your subconscious belief systems. Week three is gratitude meditation and tapping into forgiveness and gratitude. You guys, gratitude is the highest vibration that we can tap into. And once we start to bring this into our life, it's really going to start to change things. Week four is mantra meditation purpose of your body as love, awaken to your true light within. And then intention setting moving forward. So moving out into your life after this workshop is done, I'd really love for you to join us in person, if you can, because doing more hands on assists and helping you with some of those movements feels really yummy and good. And just being with a community. However, I wanted to offer this to everyone. So there will also be an online option as well. And I have the link to all the show notes in I have the link to all of these workshops in the show notes. So that will be there for you to check out. There's more details on that.

INTUITIVE EATING WORKSHOP

And then the second one is an intuitive eating workshop. So this was you. Okay, this was so major for me for changing my relationship to food. And Madeline Hackett and Katie Barbaro, who are both have both been on the podcast. Madeline was episode two. And then Katie was episode 15. And they both change their relationship to food. And we're going to talk about all of that. And it's going to be really powerful, because there's going to be three of us leading. And so there'll be more intention. And there really will be this incredible space we can hold for the community of people that really want to change their relationship to food.

OUTDOOR YOGA CLASS

And then the third one is going to be an outdoor yoga class. And if you're near Park City, or live in Park City, I'd really love for you to join us. It's gonna be fun. We're gonna move through the chakras for theming each class and then yeah, just in all levels flow. Just be with community be outside. And the date on that is still TBD, I believe we'll start July 12. But we're still waiting on approval for the grounds and Jeremy ranch. But if you're not on the newsletter, and any of these sound interesting to you, please sign up for the newsletter, you will have all the updates all the details.

The intuitive eating workshop is still TBD on the day, but we believe it'll be August 5 at PCYC. So Park City yoga collective. And yeah, I think they say you guys if you Yeah, if any of those sound really hopeful, or all of them, oh my gosh, I'd love it if you came because that body love workshop, healing our perception, changing how we feel in our body, and then that intuitive eating workshop, changing the relationship to food. Both of those are going to be an insanely powerful combination combination for really transforming your wellness practices, your belief systems, your relationship to body and food. So that's awesome. I'm just hoping that you got some really good positive energy from this episode. Tap yourself on, pat yourself on the Back, tell yourself you're doing amazing. Don't sweat the small stuff and go out there and just enjoy and just love yourself and, and love that you have a body that is able to do activities that you love. That is a great place to start. If you start to feel that comparison and judgment, let that thought go and then remind yourself, oh my gosh, I have a body where I'm able to do this, this and this. I'm able to take a breath today, I'm able to be around people that I love, you know, put your face in the sun and soak up that sunlight and just soak in the fact that you are on a path to creating change and you have set that intention for yourself. And really, actually that step you're just the willingness to change is really the only step you need to start. Just your willingness to be open and the universe and the people out there that are here to support you that all of that will lead you in the right direction. Okay, you guys, I will see you all next week sending so much love to you and your body.
